How to maintain a hot tub

How to maintain a hot tub

If you want to use your hot tub for its supposed life span, it is important not only to choose a good model, but also to take care of it in an appropriate manner. How to do that?

Hot tub maintenance

The maintenance requirements for a hot tub vary depending on the model you purchase - indoor or outdoor, but they also depend on its filtration system. Hot tubs with 100% efficient filtration do not require frequent maintenance.

It is the regularity that is important for cleaning. If the the dirt settles over a long time, then it is difficult to remove it. There are products on the market that are designed for hot tub maintenance. Use them. They have properties that comply with the demands on hot tub care.

If you do not wish to deal with a regular maintenance, at least have your hot tub checked and cleaned by a specialized company. Many companies offer such service. They will not only perform the maintenance, but also make an inspection or repair any deficiencies.

Keep the hot tub water clean

You should pay close attention to cleaning of water. The filtration will certainly remove the dirt from the hot tub, but that does not mean that if you cannot see it, the water is clean.

It is important to focus on other properties of water, mainly pH. Its value should be between 7 - 7.5. Otherwise there would be a rapid growth of harmful organisms, further supported by the environment of the hot water. Using commonly available testers, you can easily determine the pH value.

And what if the pH is outside the given range? You can reach it with chemicals. There are many types of chemicals. They may be based on bromine, active oxygen or chlorine.

Depending on how often you use the hot tub or spa, change the water regularly. The optimum is to change the water every three months.
